1. Keep Products Use and Washing to a Minimum. Try to avoid using products on your hair extension when possible. Keeping the use of hair products to a minimum, leads to less build up, and, therefore, less washing. This will drastically increase the lifespan of your hair extension and save you money in the long run. When you do wash the hair, make sure to only use Keratin infused hair products as this will keep the hair moisturized and smooth.

2. Be Cautious of Coloring Your Hair Extensions. Coloring your clip-ins will only shorten the lifespan of the hair (especially, if you bleach the hair). However, going darker is less damaging to the hair. Another thing is to try dyeing your own hair to match the color of the hair extensions instead of the other way around.

3. Storage Can Make All the Difference. To avoid unnecessary tangling, make sure to always brush through your hair extensions when you take them out. Gather your clip-ins and twist the ends together before you tie the hair in a bun. For extra protection, store your hair extension in the original package they come in.

4. Keep a Brush in Handy. Tangles are created throughout the day when friction is caused between your own hair and the hair extension. Instead of dealing with all the tangles at the end of the day while taking your clip-ins out, keep a small brush with you wherever you go and brush through your hair throughout the day. This way you have less detangling to deal with at the end of your day.

5. Never Sleep, Shower, or Swim with Your Hair Extensions. This will only cause extreme tangling. And, you risk damaging your own hair when trying to detangle or take out your clip in hair extensions.
