Have you ever done the fry-and-chop?
Your friend had some flirty summer highlights, and you wanted to try them for yourself. You went to the beauty supply store and bought the bottles your friend said you would need. You mixed and pasted the goop onto your sectioned-off strands and left it on a little too long. It’s not the right tone, and now you’ve got thirsty split ends that you want to chop off!
So, maybe chemical highlighting isn’t such a great idea.
Not only do most bleaching products contain harsh chemicals, but it’s hard to get it right. Chemical hair coloring is practically a science—especially when it comes to bleaching. And if you don’t get it right, then now you’ve ruined the lovely hair you’ve been keeping healthy for so long.
You don’t have to do the fry-and-chop to have sun-kissed highlights in your natural mane!
Instead of damaging your hair in the name of beauty, one healthier alternative you might consider is clip-in hair extensions. In fact, we’re going to show you how to create these instant highlights with ESTELLES SECRET Hair Extensions—no frizz, no fry, no over-processed locks here. It’s faster than bleaching, there’s no mess, and you won’t have to compete with chemical fumes for oxygen.
This is done in two parts, starting with the back and finishing with the sides. We’re going to break this down step by step, and we’ve also included a 3-minute video to help you get started.
Section off the top portion of your hair from the back with a comb, right about the top of your ears.
*Make sure your line is clean and even. You’re going to be adding extensions here, and you want a straight part to work with. You’ll want to leave the bottom half of your hair down, so you can brush in the layers of extensions as you go.
Take the top portion of your hair, brush it up, and clip it to the crown of your head, away from where you will be adding the lighter-color extensions. Make sure you don’t have strands hanging down the back of your head that will get in the way of adding your extensions.
I am using the 16-inch-long hair extensions—Dirty Blonde #18.
Choose the size that fits here. You’ll want to make sure it’s right near the part, attaching it to the roots of the bottom section of your hair. Optionally, you can straighten the bottom portion of your hair with your new locks.
Then, bring down another 1/2 inch of hair from the section clipped to the top of your head.
* Again, make sure your line is clean. Brush the top section of hair up, and clip it to the crown of your head.
* This helps the extensions to blend in with your hair, and it’ll make it easier to see where you need to put your next hair extension.
Add ESTELLES SECRET 16-inch-long hair extensions—Caramel Blonde #27.
OPTIONAL: Straighten the hair extensions.
As before, bring down another 1/2 inch of hair from the section clipped to the top of your head.
Brush between the wefts.
Add ESTELLES SECRET 16-inch-long hair extensions—Chocolate Brown #4.
OPTIONAL: Straighten the hair extensions.
Bring down another 1/2 inch of hair.
Brush between the wefts.
Add ESTELLES SECRET 16-inch-long hair extensions—Dirty Blonde #18.
OPTIONAL: Straighten the hair extensions.
Bring down another 1/2 inch of hair.
Brush between the wefts.
Add ESTELLES SECRET 16-inch-long hair extensions—Caramel Blonde #27.
*OPTIONAL: Straighten the hair extensions.
Loosen the clip, and brush your hair out. Once you’ve done these five total extensions with 1/2-inch sections of your natural hair in between, brush out your hair. You’re almost done! Now it’s time to do the sides.
Starting on one side, section off your hair horizontally at about the height of your forehead, just in front of your ears.
Just like with the back section, you’ll want to keep this line clean. You’ll also want to keep your hair piece hidden, so start behind your bangs if you have them (or where they would theoretically begin if you don’t).
Clip the top section of hair away from where you will be adding the extensions.
*Or just brushing this section over to the opposite side might be OK—but keep that parting line clean and even, so your extensions will be clean and even as well.
I am using the 16-inch-long hair extensions—Caramel Blonde #27.
*Again, choose a weft size that fits here, making sure that the seam is hidden. This time it’s only one hair extension (as opposed to the five in the back). Again, you can choose to straighten your hair here if you want.
The result should look natural and seamless.
Congratulations on your new highlights without the harm!
