5 Tips on How to Get Healthy Hair

In today’s post, we’ll go through what’s good for your hair and what to avoid in order to achieve beautiful, healthy hair. These are basic tips, and you’ve probably heard of these before. However, although they are basic, we can’t stop stressing how important they are. Following these tips, will make a huge difference to your hair.

  1. Regular Trims. Make sure to trim your ends on a regular basis. Every 2-3 months if you have long hair is good to do. Ask your hairstylist to get around ½ -1 inch. Trying to grow your hair out? Don’t worry, hair grows about ½ inch per month. If you cut your hair every 2nd or 3rd month, you’ll still be able to grow it out. Getting regular trims will keep your hair looking beautiful. There’s no reason to keep dry and damaged hair. Besides, damaged and dry hair is hard to style as it loses its shine and bounce. And, it causes the hair to tangle more. If your hair is of very fine quality, it’s still important to trim it. If you find that your hair grows very slowly, try trimming it every 4th month instead.
  1. Don’t Color Your Hair Often. Try to find a suitable shade for you to maintain and stick to it. Try not to change your hair color too often as this will only cause damage to your hair. Excessively color-treated hair will eventually lose its vibrancy and look dull. When you freshen up your color, only have your roots done (avoid applying new color to already color-treated hair). If you like to freshen up your ends, use a toner which is kinder to your hair. And don’t forget to deep condition your lengths and ends when your hair feels dry.
  1. Keep a Healthy and Balanced Lifestyle. We often forget that what we see on the outside is a reflection of the inside. In other words, everything you put into your body, shows up on your skin and hair. Regular exercise and eating mindfully will help your body to grow healthier and stronger hair. And if you are treating yourself to a healthy lifestyle, your mood will also be in balance. This is also important as stress and changes in hormonal levels may lead to dry, brittle hair that is prone to breaking. It may also lead to hair loss. So be kind to your body and make the necessary changes in your life. Exercise at least twice a week, eat healthy (avoid processed food) and do things for yourself that you know are good for your body. Your hair will definitely follow you on that journey.
  1. Don’t Forget to Hydrate. Having shiny hair is all about keeping it moisturized so make sure to drink lots of water. You body needs fluids to function properly. Drink at least 8 cups of water per day. When you exercise, make sure to drink more (at least 2 more cups). Also moisturize your hair with the help of good hair products. We recommend getting keratin infused hair products. These products have proteins similar to our own hair. They build up the hair from within and really help dry and damaged hair to become smoother and tangle less. But, make sure to only apply the keratin treatment to your lengths and ends. This kind of treatment is intense, and if applied to your roots, it will most likely weigh your hair down which will result in flat hair.
  1. Use Less Styling Products and Heat. Heat styling your hair on regular basis is damaging to your hair so try to do this less frequently. You can, for instance, wear your curls or straight hair for a couple of days if you don’t get it wet. So, instead of washing out your style, try to keep it for at least 2 days before you style it again. Another alternative is to try heatless hair styling methods or to try wearing your natural hair texture. Try to avoid using strong products or a lot of different products. Hair styling products contain chemicals and alcohols that tend to dry out and damage your hair. You don’t really need lots of products to pull off a hairstyle. Instead, learn to style your hair using as little product as possible. All you really need is the following products:
  • leave-in (for extra moisture)
  • dry shampoo (apply to your roots if volume is needed)
  • heat protectant spray (to help protect your hair)
  • hairspray (for added hold)

Quick Tip- You don’t need a combination of products in order to achieve long lasting curls. Instead, pin the curls and let them cool down before releasing them.

These’re our basic tips on how to get healthy hair.  There’re definitely more things you can do to keep your hair healthy, but if you simply follow these tips, your hair will feel and look better.
