High buns are great. It’s a quick and easy hairstyle we’ve all tried at some point. You’ve seen it at work, school, gym, or during a night out. The high bun can truly be used for any occasion.

But, after a while you start to get slightly bored with just putting your hair up in a bun. You still have love for your bun, but you want more. So what do you do?

You upgrade your bun.

It’s not as hard as you may think. Yes, it might take you a few more minutes to get ready. But, it’s so worth it! A new and improved high bun will have you feeling renewed and a bit more edgy than your usual self.

Here are 4 simple ways to add extra flair to your high bun:

1. Backcomb It Up. Backcombing your ponytail before proceeding to make your high bun will give you maximum volume. And, don’t be afraid if it turns out a bit messy – messy buns are gorgeous. Quick tip –add texturizing spray for texture.
2. Upside-Down Braid It. Do an upside down braid starting at your nape and secure it at the top with a hair tie before you continue on with you high bun. We suggest doing a Dutch braid, but any braid would look amazing. So, choose your favourite and go for it! Quick tip –add texturizing spray to add texture to the braid.
3. Scarf It Up. This is the quickest of them all. Once you’re done with your high bun, just tie it up with a scarf of your choice. The scarf really makes a difference. It could be a simple solid colored scarf or a multi-colored, printed scarf.
4. Braid Wrap It. Once you have your hair up in a ponytail, take a section of hair and braid it. Again, any type of braid or twist will do. Just make sure to secure the braid/twist with an elastic hair tie. Continue on with your high bun and then wrap your braid or twist around the bun. Lastly, secure with bobby pins and add hairspray for extra hold.
