How to Choose the Right Hair Extension Method for You

There are many types of hair extensions to choose from. But, not all of them will work for your hair. To get the right hair extensions for you, you’ll need to consider the following things: your budget, your lifestyle, how often you plan on using your hair extensions, and what type of hair you have.

In this particular post, we’ll focus on these three methods: glue-ins, tape-ins, and clip-ins.

  1. The glue-in method is a permanent method of applying hair extensions to your roots. We definitely recommend getting this done by a professional. Glue-ins last for about a month and should be redone every month to keep the hair looking good. This method can be pricey to maintain as you have to redo your hair extensions frequently. But, might be worth it if you don’t want to be doing it yourself. If you have thin hair, this method might not be the best option for you as the glue may be a strain on your own hair and lead to hair loss.
  1. The tape method is a semi-permanent methods that lasts up to about 3 weeks. This method is less damaging to your own hair as it’s not as firmly attached to your roots. The tape method can be as pricey as the glued in method; however, it doesn’t take as long to get done. It’s also a less complicated method that you can learn to do yourself or have a friend help you out. The less positive aspect of this method is that you might not be able to wash your hair as often as you’d like to as the tape gets looser for each wash. If you’re very active (go to the gym or swim often) then this is probably not the ideal method for you.
  1. The clip-in method is a temporary method that can be used for everyday purposes. If you haven’t used clip in hair extensions before, it may take some time getting used to. A bit of patience is required to learn how to clip in the extensions and blend it with your own hair. However, the more you use your clip-ins, the quicker you’ll learn. It’s basically like makeup – you get better at it with time! And, once you have a routine, it only takes a few minutes to apply your clip-ins. The best thing about this method is that you can take out your clip-ins whenever you like (when going to the gym, washing your hair or going to bed).

If it’s your first time using hair extensions, we recommend going for a more temporary method like tape-ins or clip-ins. If you’re still unsure, it’s always best to ask your hairstylist for further help before you get any type of hair extensions.
