You can add inches and volume in under an hour with clip-in 22-inch hair extensions—and we’re going to show you how step by step. We’ve also included a short video as a visual guide. You’ll be using our longest locks: ESTELLE’S SECRET Glam 22-inch Hair Extensions Set. You’ll want to choose the hair that best matches your color or if your looking to make highlights, we’ve got a guide for that too!
- Your normal, medium-long hair
- ESTELLE’S SECRET Glam 22-inch Hair Extensions Set
- Hairbrush
- OPTIONAL: Dry Shampoo
LET’S GET STARTED!

STEP 1: BRUSH OUT YOUR HAIR
You’ll want to make sure to clear out all the tangles. Brushing out your hair may seem like an obvious first step, but it’s super important to be able to work your extensions into your hair.
STEP 2:EAR TO EAR
Make sure your line is clean and even. You’re going to be attaching your first weft here. Leave the bottom portion of your hair down, so you can brush in the layers of extensions as you go.
Take the top portion of your hair, brush it up, and clip it to the crown of your head, away from where you will be adding the extensions. Make sure you don’t have strands hanging down the back of your head that will get in the way of adding your extensions.
*OPTIONAL: Spray some dry shampoo on your exposed roots to give your clips a better grip.
STEP 3: APPLY THE FIRST CLIP
Clip in your 22-inch-long 3-clip weft hair extension.
Start with the middle clip first, and then clip in the other two. You’ll want to make sure it’s right near the part, attaching it to the roots of the bottom section of your hair.
STEP 4: BRUSH
This will volumize and blend the extension strands with your own bottom layer of hair.
STEP 5: TEMPLE TO TEMPLE
Taking from the top portion of hair, section your hair from temple to temple. Make sure the line is parallel with the weft you just attached underneath. Take the top portion of your hair, brush it up, and clip it to the crown of your head, away from where you will be adding the extensions.
*OPTIONAL: Spray some dry shampoo on your exposed roots to give your clips a better grip.
STEP 6:BRUSH AGAIN!
Add volume, delete tangles!
STEP 7: ADD YOUR NEXT CLIP
Clip in your ESTELLE’S SECRET Glam 22-inch-long 4-clip weft.
Clip in the middle two clips first, then the outer two. Again, you’ll want to make sure it’s right near the part, attaching it to the roots of the bottom section of your hair.
STEP 8: BRUSH IT OUT!
Blend and volumize!
STEP 9: SECTION YOUR HAIR
Bring down another ½-inch layer of hair, making sure that the line is parallel with the previous weft. Fasten the rest of your hair up on top, away from your working area.
STEP 10:BRUSH!
(And, of course, you can add some dry shampoo to your roots here to give you a better grip if you want.)
STEP 11: TIME FOR THE 4-CLIP WEFT
Just like in STEP 7, start with the middle two clips, and then attach the other two.
STEP 12: BRUSH IT OUT!
(You’re probably starting to get it.)
STEP 13: SECTION YOUR HAIR
Bring down another ½-inch layer of hair, making sure that the line is parallel with the previous weft. Fasten the rest of your hair up on top, away from your working area.
STEP 14: BRUSH!
If you’ve already been doing it, go ahead and use some dry shampoo here to give your clips a better grip.
STEP 15: ADD IN 3-CLIP WEFT
Start with the middle clip, and then attach the outer two.
STEP 16:BRUSH IT ALL OUT!
You’re done with the back, which is the longest part of your extension journey here. Let’s move on to the sides.
Sides
STEP 1: SECTION YOUR HAIR
Starting on one side, section the hair from your temple, and clip the remaining top section of hair to the top of your head.
Keep that line clean, and pile the top bunch of hair onto your head and clip it!
*OPTIONAL: Spray some dry shampoo on your exposed roots to give your clips a better grip.
STEP 2: ADD FIRST CLIP
Clip in your 22-inch-long ESTELLE’S SECRET Glam 2-clip weft hair extension 1 inch from your hairline.
You’ll want to make sure the edge of the weft is hidden by the front portion of your hair. Make sure it’s about 1 inch back from your hairline.
STEP 3: BRUSH IT OUT
This will blend and volumize!
STEP 4: ADD MORE HAIR
Divide the hair 1/2 above the weft, and clip the remaining top section of hair to the top of your head.
Make that a straight and clean line, and then clip what’s left on top.
*OPTIONAL: Spray some dry shampoo on your exposed roots to give your clips a better grip.
STEP 5: TIME FOR THE 2-CLIP WEFT
Clip in your 20-inch-long 2-clip weft hair extension 1 inch from your hairline.
Same thing here as in Step 2. Make sure your weft is hidden—keep it 1 inch back from your hairline.
STEP 6: BRUSH!
STEP 7:ADD YOUR HAIR
Divide the hair 1/2 above the weft, and clip the remaining top section of hair to the top of your head.
Make that a straight and clean line, and then clip what’s left on top.

STEP 8: ADD 1-CLIP WEFT
Clip in your 22-inch-long 1-clip weft hair extension 1 inch from your hairline.
Same thing here as in Step 2, except you’ll be using a 1-clip weft. Make sure your weft is hidden—keep it 1 inch back from your hairline.
STEP 9: BRUSH IT OUT!
STEP 10: DIVIDE YOUR HAIR
Divide the hair 1/2 above the weft, and clip the remaining top section of hair to the top of your head.
Make that a straight and clean line, and then clip what’s left on top.
*OPTIONAL: Spray some dry shampoo on your exposed roots to give your clips a better grip.
STEP 11: FINAL CLIP!
Clip in your 22-inch-long 1-clip weft hair extension 1 inch from your hairline.
Same thing here as in Step 2, except you’ll be using a 1-clip weft. Make sure your weft is hidden—keep it 1 inch back from your hairline.
STEP 12: BRUSH IT OUT!
REPEAT STEPS 1 THROUGH 11 ON THE OTHER SIDE.
