Fighting frizzy hair can feel like a battle at times. And, just adding products to your hair to reduce the frizz won’t do the trick. Serums can be helpful but fighting the frizz starts way before the styling stage…it starts in the shower.
Without further ado, our top 19 must-try tips to fight against frizzy hair and get a sleek finish to your favorite hairstyles:
Before you step out of the shower, quickly rinse your hair in cold water. This seals the hair cuticles making it smoother.
It’s not your friend. Avoid keeping your hair wrapped up in a towel while you get ready as this will only cause the hair cuticles to open and frizz up even more. And, no more rubbing your hair dry as this also creates frizz. Instead, squeeze out any excess water and let the hair air-dry a few minutes before blow-drying it.
Divide your hair into 2-4 sections. Start by holding on to your ends while blow drying the roots before you work your way down to the ends. This stops the hair from flying around and creating more frizz.
Comb your hair using a wide tooth comb starting at the ends and working your way up. Instead of dragging your comb down through all the tangles creating frizz, you are only combing through detangled hair when you work from the bottom to the top.
Apply a conditioner or deep conditioner to your hair before stepping into the shower. Disperse it through your hair using a wide-toothed comb and then cover it using a shower cap (not a towel!) until you are ready to rinse. This will leave your hair smoother and shiny!
Stay away from washing your hair on rainy days. Just keep it moisturized using a spray bottle of water and conditioner.
Keep frizzy hair at bay by putting your hair in a loose braid and covering it with a satin scarf before jumping in the sack. You won’t have to worry about rubbing your hair against pillows or sheets while you’re asleep as these are prime candidates for causing frizz.
Use gel and a handy-dandy toothbrush- not the same one you use to brush your teeth- to tame baby hair frizz like a boss.
Invest in a quality smoothing product to keep in your bag for emergencies. Look for paraben-free and sulfate-free options to prevent long-term damage to your tresses.
Hair oils are amazing at taming frizz plus they are incredibly nourishing, hydrating, and smell great! Try using coconut oil, Morrocan oil, or argan oil. Simply run a few drops through your hair using your hands and you’re all set.
Since frizzy hair is the result of being dry, start with good habits and massage your scalp when you’re sitting down, whether at work or watching a movie. This helps blood circulation in your scalp and distributes the natural oils that help keep your hair from drying out.
This tip goes along with the last one in the sense that maintaining healthy habits will combat frizz from the start. Since your hair is made up of protein (keratin) and water, drinking plenty of water and eating protein-rich foods is crucial to having a healthy head of hair.
Apply any hair products while your hair is still damp. If you wait until your hair is bone dry, the more likely it is to get the frizzies.
It goes without saying that the more friction your hair is exposed to the frizzier it will be. So, updo’s are often your best friend since it won’t be rubbing against your back, getting caught in jewelry, or other daily elements. Also, refrain from constantly running your fingers through your hair or flipping it.
Wash your hair less often to allow it’s natural oils to work its magic instead of stripping the oils constantly by washing too often. Invest in a quality dry shampoo for those days in between washes that your hair needs a refresher.
Stay away from yucky chemicals like alcohol and sulfate that strip moisture from your hair.
Keep heating tools to a minimum. As your probably aware, too much heat is bad for your hair but also remember that a high heat setting is just as damaging. Use a lower setting like 365 degrees F to reduce the chances of frizz and frying your hair.
Use a diffuser, ‘nough said. Just kidding, diffusers are great because they don’t blow your hair all over the place like the regular blowdryer.
Are you using the right brush? If you’re serious about taming your frizzy hair then you need to be using a boar bristle brush instead of a pin brush. Because it helps distribute your hairs natural oils effectively, it will leave your locks smooth, shiny, and reduce breakage.
Make sure to try these tips and let us know which works best for you. And, if you have any tips you’d like to share on how you tame your frizz, please comment below.
Wishing you a Frizz-Free Day,

This look works best with longer hair so if you don’t already have it, go ahead a put in your Estelle’s Secret clip-in hair extensions and we will start this look from there!
Need a cute Valentine’s Day hairstyle to rock this weekend? We’ve got the perfect look for you!
Start by parting your hair in the middle and creating two smaller sections at the front (one on each side). Braid the two sections of hair. We did two basic braids. But you can, of course, do any type of braid you wish for. If braiding simply isn’t for you, try twisting the hair instead. Once you’re done braiding or twisting the hair, secure the hair using clear elastic bands. We also used a volumizing foam from Redken to help add texture to the hair. This is great if your hair feels too slippery. An alternative to this is using texturizing spray.
Move one to adding your clip-in hair extensions at the back of your hair, but make sure to leave a bit of hair at the top (we’ll work on this section of hair later on). To achieve this cute Valentine’s Day hairdo, we used clip-ins from the Classic 20” set. We added 3 clip ins at the back of the head for more volume and a bit of added length. However, if you want more volume, go ahead and add even more clip ins. If you’re going for a more subtle look, you can add less clip ins or none at all. You decide what feels best for you.
Brush through the hair to help the clip in hair extensions better blend with your hair and then move on to styling the hair. We used a 1.5 inch curling wand when curling the models hair. To make your curls last, make sure to let the hair cool down and set before styling it. Use clips or pins to hold each curl in place while it cools down. An alternative is to hold each curl in your hand a few seconds before releasing it.
While letting the curled hair cool down, bring your two side braids or twists to the back of the hair and secure with an elastic band. Now it’s time to work on the top section of hair. Let down a section of hair and add clip ins. Bring down another section of hair from the top and add another clip in piece. We added 2 pieces of clip in hair extensions at the top of the head. Again, you decide how many clip ins you’d like to add for your desired look.
Once the last clip ins are in, it’s time to curl the rest of the hair. Let the hair cool down before brushing through all of your hair. Gently go through the hair using your fingers and Voila! You’re done!
We hope you’ll give this hairstyle a try during the weekend. And if you do, don’t forget to share your look with us on Instagram using #estellessecret. We’d love to see you recreate this hairdo!
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Your ends should come to a gradual point in the middle of your back

This weeks post is a step by step guide on how to get your hair back on track. Simply follow these simple tips for a couple of months and your hair will grow thicker and stronger.
Many women experience hair-loss. This can be caused by hormonal changes, like a pregnancy or if you have a health condition that causes your hair to loose it’s nutrients. Over-heating, styling your hair the wrong way can also result in thinner hair.
If you’re suffering from thin hair, you probably have fine hair strands and your hairline is irregular. This is normal for fine hair, because it breaks too early before it has the chance to become long enough to create a thick and even hairstyle. But don’t worry! Your hair-type is not uncommon and there are a couple of tips and tricks you can do to get your hair thicker.
All of these thinning hair issues are normally caused by over-heating, cutting the hair the wrong way, bleaching (color treating) and not giving back the proteins to the hair. To get your hair back on track, simply follow these steps:
If you follow the above steps and stick to these caring tips, you’ll be able to see a great change in just a couple of months.
We’re going to show you how to create these instant highlights with ESTELLES SECRET Hair Extensions—no frizz, no fry, no over-processed locks here.
When trying to style your hair, it’s important to start off with the right texture of hair in order to achieve the hairstyle and look you’re going for. The texture of your hair has a huge impact on how your hairstyle will end up looking and how difficult the process of styling your hair will be. It’s, therefore, important to make sure you first have the right hair texture before you start styling your hair.
For a bohemian and romantic hairstyle, we would recommend starting off with loose waves. To get this texture, use a curling wand with a big barrel as this helps create soft loose waves. When it comes to classic, traditional hairstyles or wedding hairstyles, we find it’s better to start off with tight curls. Both loose curls/waves and tight curls work perfectly for various updo hairstyles. And, although the same hairdo, technically, can be done on both textures, the outcome will be noticeably different as they create a different look and feel to the hairstyle.
Textured hair is also great for twist and braid hairstyles as the hair is easier to work with. In addition, textured hair will hold a braid/twist better than straight or freshly washed hair. If you’re trying to master a new braiding technique, we definitely recommend starting off with slightly textured hair.
Pin straight hair or freshly washed hair is hard to work with compared to second day hair. So, unless you’re going for a sleeked back hairstyle, a sleek ponytail or braid, we don’t really recommend starting off with pin straight or freshly washed hair. It will only have you frustrated, especially if you’re trying out a new hairstyle.
To get the specific hairstyle and look you’re going for, a little bit of planning is required. For instance, if you’re planning to do an updo for a special event coming up, you might want to strategically plan in your hair wash day in order to ensure you have the right texture. There are, of course, a few shortcuts that you can take if your hair is freshly washed or just feels extra slippery on a particular styling day. You can add dry shampoo or texturizing spray for added texture, or you can curl or wave your hair using a heat styling tool. Check out how we create soft, loose curls/waves in this step-by-step hair tutorial.
We hope that you find this post helpful. And, if you have any styling tips you’d like to share with us, please leave a comment below. We’d love to hear from you.

Here is the big scoop. Oiling, shampooing and conditioning sounds like a complete hair-care regimen, but it misses out a very important part – brushing. The way you brush your hair can make a significant difference to the hair health. While everyone recommends brushing hair a 100 times a day as that improves circulation, doing it with the wrong brush would cause more damage than benefits. This is why it’s important to concentrate on not only how much you brush your hair, but also how and when you do it, and with what brush you do it.
Your Clip In Hair Extensions will look better and last longer if your hair is taken care of the right way. Take it from us…. beauty takes work! 🙂
WHEN to brush your hair:
Combing your hair with a fine-toothed comb when wet is a recipe for disaster. Ideally, when you’ve just washed your hair, just press a towel onto it until it’s not dripping anymore. When your hair is damp, run a wide-toothed comb through the ends, and then go a little upwards with each stroke until the whole length is untangled. Wait for it to dry out completely before using a paddle brush to brush your hair thoroughly
HOW to brush your hair:
Gently! That’s the only way, really. Don’t be impatient with knots and run the comb right through them. Besides causing breakage, they will leave split ends that give your hair a damaged look. Carefully untangle stubborn knots with your hands instead of brushing them away.
HOW MUCH to brush your hair:
Twice a day is perfect. Before heading out for the day, just brush enough to untangle and style your hair. Before bedtime, run your brush gently on your scalp for about a 100 strokes. You need not run the brush through the whole length. Besides resulting in better circulation, it will also serve as a relaxing head massage and you’ll sleep better!
WITH WHAT to brush your hair:
How to choose the right hair brush is probably not a question you’ve dwelled much upon, and picked up the prettiest one you saw at the general store. The upside of this is you can see a great improvement in your hair health by just picking the right hair brush. The best hair brush is definitely the cushioned paddle brush with nylon bristles – it is your safest bet. It is least damaging, stimulates blood circulation, and spreads the natural oils from the scalp through the hair giving it a healthy shine.
While the paddle brush can also be used for a basic blow dry, you might want to look for the vent brush variety of paddle brushes. Boar bristle brushes are good to use for blow drying if you want a straight look. However, if you want to style your hair or add volume, use a round hair brush, the size of the barrel should be proportional to your hair length and the kind of curl you want. Smaller the barrel, tighter will be the curl.
Armed with these tips on hair brushing, we’re sure your hair will be even more beautiful now. Which brush does the trick for you? Share your preference in our comments section!
The dog days of summer are upon us ladies and you know what that means! Summer vacations, pool parties, and family cookouts. Oh yes, I am right there with you, summer is without a doubt, my favorite season. Plus, you get to rock the cutest outfits and fliest hairstyles with Estelle’s Secret clip-in hair extensions! Have you watched all the awesome tutorials on the site? From beach waves, braids, and highlights, you will have literally the best summer hairstyles around. I have to warn you though, if you’re not careful with your clip-in hair extensions, they could go from fly to, well, fried! Nobody wants that, so let me give you a few tips on keeping them protected from sun, sand, and sea all summer long!
Ok, I’m going to start off with what I feel is the most important tip I can give you, and it sucks but it will save you a ton of time and headache. You do not want to go swimming with your clip-in hair extensions. I know, but trust me, it’s a recipe for disaster! This goes for both the pool and the beach water. Chlorine and the salt in the water will damage your extensions by drying them out immensely. On top of that, your hair will tangle like crazy! I can tell you from experience, it’s true and it’s not fun. You will literally spend an eternity trying to untangle your natural from the hair extension so I recommend avoiding it all together.
So, you want those fabulous beach waves you saw Blake Lively sporting last year, right? Of course, who doesn’t?! The question is, what is the best way to accomplish the wavy style without damaging your even more fabulous clip-ins? The first thing that comes to mind are those popular mermaid salt spray’s that have been all the rave, but for us hair-extension rockin gals, it’s best to stay far, far away! These sprays contain sea salt which again, damages not only the hair extensions but also your own hair. They also contain alcohol, delivering a double dose of dryness, frizzies, and tangles. Instead, you should opt for a keratin-infused leave-in conditioner. Simply soak the hair, scrunch it up with your hands, and you’re all set. You’ve got bold, beautiful, beach waves that are full of body without all the harsh chemicals.
I’m sure you guys already know how the sun’s harmful UV rays can wreak havoc on your skin but it can also damage your hair extensions. The constant heat from the summer sun can easily and quickly dry out your clip-in hair extension leaving them looking less than cute. This isn’t exactly something you can easily avoid but you can combat it by deep conditioning your clip-ins on a regular basis. We always recommend using a keratin-infused conditioner and soak the extensions starting at the ends and working your way up. You can expect the best results by either leaving the conditioner on overnight before rinsing them or wrapping them up under a warm dryer for a good hour. Deep conditioning is essential for keeping your hair extensions (and your natural hair) hydrated and moisturized during the summer.
If you have any summer care tips for clip-in extensions that we missed, let us know! Also, just in case things don’t go as planned, if you are headed to the beach or pool with your extensions in, wearing them in a braid or bun will help reduce tangling and damage. Be mindful of products, as many products contain sulfate and other yucky chemicals that your extensions don’t like. Other than that, Estelle’s Secret wishes you a hair-tastic summer and don’t forget to watch all the quick and easy tutorials to slay the hair game all summer long!
